Teachers’ Day 2023 - 24 was celebrated in a grand manner by Zion and Alwin Group of Schools on 5th September 2023, at Zion International Public School, Mappedu. Mrs. Sharanya Ari, IAS, Deputy Commissioner - Education, Greater Chennai Corporation, was the Chief Guest for the grand occasion. Various cultural programmes were performed by the teachers of the six schools. Best Teacher Awards were presented to the befitting teachers, honouring their dedicated contribution towards the students and the school. The programme ended with a Grand Feast hosted by the school. The best teachers of our school were recognized by various other organisations and institutions and they were honoured with the Best Teacher Awards.
On July 21st 2023, the middle school students were taken on a field trip to Birla Planetarium and further to the Science museum. The 3D theatre was a visual treat. They enjoyed watching a Science fantasy film and the night sky, various stars, constellations and galaxies at the Sky Theatre. After lunch, they played at the Science Park where they experienced how sound travels. They were also enchanted by “Science on a Sphere” programme where they saw ‘birds in the cage’, presented in a high-resolution video on a suspended globe, creating an illusion. Students appreciated the effect of the travelling ball. The students returned to the school happily, enriched with knowledge. On August 12th 2023, the upper primary classes were taken to the India Sea Shell Museum at Mahabalipuram. They enjoyed viewing rare species of pearls on display and the smallest sea shells and under water theme park. A train made of Oyster shells and the aquarium made the trip an unforgettable day for the little ones. Both the trips made our children understand that learning beyond the classroom is interesting and informative.
On 19th
August 2023, 25TH Annual Sports Meet, “ARGENTA ‘23” was organized. Ms.Ruthika - International 100 Meter Dash
sprinter was the Chief Guest and graced the occasion. Ln. A. Natarajan - City Organisation
Committee Chairman, Tambaram Corporation was the Guest of Honour. The students were very excited about the
activities carried on through out the event.
The parents of all the students were present and made the occasion a
grand success.
On August 15th 2023, 77th Independence Day was celebrated with great joy and patriotic feeling. The Principal Mr.Rathna Kumar S hoisted the National Flag and delivered a motivating speech. Claudia Sharon A of Std VIII sowed a Patriotic feeling in every mind by her mesmerizing speech. Ms.Esther Rathna Malar S, Vice Principal, Primary thanked the gathering.
116th birth anniversary of Karmaveerar K Kamaraj former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is celebrated as Educational Development Day on 14th July 2023. Shrimathi Rekha Mani, the orator, presided over the program and addressed the students on the importance of being a literate and about the simplicity of Kamarajar. Students exhibited their talents through fancy dress,speech, a small skit and a theme song based on Kamarajar - the Thennattu Gandhi.It was a grand and successful event and the day to be remembered forever.
On 13th July, 2023 students were all prepared to don the mantle of leadership and discharge the responsibilities entrusted to them by the school.
The ceremony was held with zeal and enthusiasm.
Dr. N. Vijayan, the founder and the chairman of Zion and Alwin group of schools lighted the lamp to commence the program.
Right to vote is the fundamental right of every citizen in a democratic country like India. It is the foremost responsibility of the school to teach the duties and responsibilities of every citizen. We, trained our students by conducting an election and made them select right candidates as their School Pupil Leader, Assistant School Pupil Leader, Sports Secretary, Assistant Sports Secretary and the House Leaders. Votes were cast with a great interest by the students by gaining information on Polling Booths, Contesting Candidates/Student Nominees and the right way to use their ballot paper after checking their names in the voter’s list/electoral roll.
International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st
June 2023 with the theme of the year “VASUDHAIVA KUDUMBAKAM”.
Various Asanas were performed by the students and their
benefits were informed to the students. Formations with many asanas together
made the day a splendid success and inculcated the practice of Yoga in
everyone.
Tamil Nadu Day was observed at the 18th National Jamboree Camp held at Rohat, Pali, Rajasthan from 4th January 2023 to 10th January 2023 in which the Hon’ble Education Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr.Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi honoured the participants from our school, along with our Chairman. The culture, cuisine, and achievements of our state were displayed with pride.Our students also participated in the International Cultural Jamboree held at Mangalore, Karnataka in the month of December.
KG Graduation day was celebrated in Zion Matriculation Hr. Sec. School, Madambakkam. Dr. R. Moses Inbaraj, retired H.O.D. of Zoology department in Madras Christian College felicitated the program as the chief guest. The occasion was graced by Captain N.S.S. Murthy, Academic Coordinator Mrs. S. Anitha Emel Elizabeth, Principal Mr. R. Prakash, Mrs. Devi Mani, Principal Middle School, Mrs. Nagarani, the Vice Principal, Mrs. Maria Suganthi, Head Mistress, Mrs. Sandhiya Coordinator of STD 1&2 and Mrs. Josephine Tiburcia Miranda, KG Coordinator. Captain N.S.S. Murthy felicitated the Chief Guest with bouquet and Mrs. Josephine Tiburcia Miranda welcomed all the dignitaries, invitees, parents, teachers and graduants. The cultural events of the fantabulous tiny tots were really mind blowing. This was followed by the distribution of graduate certificates to the tiny tots in graduation caps and sash along with the felicitation of the little children. The program culminated with the vote of thanks by Padma Joveena of UKG – A and the program ended with National Anthem.
24th Annual day Celebrations(Cultural Festo) at Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Madambakkam was conducted recently on February 25, 2023, graced by the Chief Guest Ms VASANTHAKUMARI KAMALAKANNAN, Mayor, Tambaram Corporation and the Guest of Honour Ln. Mr A. NATARAJAN, City Organisation Committee Chairman, Tambaram Corporation. The dignitaries who graced the occasion included our Founder, Chairman Dr N. VIJAYAN, the National Best Teacher Awardee, Vice Chairman Mr Aldous Huxley, Director Ms Rachael Huxley, Members of the Advisory Committee, Captain N.S.S. Murthy, Dr Rosalind Chelliah and Academic Coordinator Ms Anitha Emel Elizabeth. The blissful evening commenced with an invocation song by the school choir, followed by the Welcome Address rendered by the Chairman. Soon after the felicitation of the Guests, the Annual Report was presented by the Principal Mr R. PRAKASH. Prizes and Awards were distributed to the Achievers who had excelled in various fields. The Cultural Extravaganza of the children enthralled everyone. A vote of Thanks was proposed by the Coordinator, Primary Compartment and the programme ended with the National Anthem.
The students of Std XII from Zion & Alwin Group of Schools were taken on a one-day trip to Esthel Village Resort, Thirukazhikundram on 3rd January 2023. Refreshments were given on arrival which was followed by an excellent MC and DJ that engaged the students throughout the day. The event management team had arranged 11 game stalls and Carnival Games were conducted along with the PETs of our school. After the delicious lunch, the entire arena was filled with the dance performance and mimicry of special artists. At dusk, having filled the tummy with yummy snacks, the children departed reluctantly cherishing the sweet memories of the unforgettable day which really served as a stress buster to our students.
‘Times of India’ general edition on 5th December 2022 was published with an attachment of NIE Principal Guest Edition and Student Edition written and edited by the Chairman, teachers and students of Zion and Alwin Group of Schools. The opening page was ornamented with an article by the Chairman and the second page was decorated with the works of the Vice Principal, teachers and students of Zion Matriculation Hr. Sec. School, Madambakkam on the following topics: Food-Trend Story, Table Manners, Did you know?- An FAQ on a particular dish, Fun Recipe and Know your Cuisine.
Tamil Talent Search Exam was conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu to encourage Tamil Literary Knowledge in students of Class XI. Students who participated in this Tamil Talent Search Exam were given good training and preparation by the teachers. Children with a high score out of 100 were selected to get a monthly scholarship from the Government of Tamil Nadu. Mohammed Musharuf S and Vaishnavi M of class XI were selected for this prestigious honour.
Our School, Zion Matric. Hr. Sec. School, Madambakkam was invited for the Rocket Launch SSLV – D2 at Satish Dhawan Space Center at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. A team of students visited the Rocket Launch.
'Brain Rain' - Science Exhibition was conducted on Saturday 3rd December 2022, in the school premises. Dr.Joe K.Kizhakudan, Principal Scientist, Mariculture Division, had consented to be the Chief Guest. Children from all the departments participated with great enthusiasm. They exhibited their innovative ideas with working and nonworking models. Our honorable Chairman, Dr. N. Vijayan and the Academic Coordinator Mrs.Anitha Emel Elizabeth felicitated the Grand Expo.
Our school celebrated the pongal celebration in a splendid manner. The students participated in the inspiring speech and sung Nathupura Padal and Pongal song which reminded the rich and magnificent traditions and culture of Tamilnadu. The celebration began with a Prayer, followed by a message, which reminded the children about the importance of the harvest festival. Various cultural programs, that included songs, dances and skit, depicted the significance of the Harvest Festival.
The Mini Marathon Race - 5 kms from Zion Matric Hr. Sec. School- Selaiyur to Zion International Public School – Mapeddu, was successfully conducted on 19th Nov, 2022 by Zion and Alwin Group of Schools to create awareness on Diabetes. At 6.15 am. Mr. N. Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Tambaram City Police, signaled the start of the Marathon in which about 140 students of grade IX and X participated. F.Haseena of Std X B has secured the 2nd prize and S. Niranjana of Std X D has secured the third prize.
Children’s Day was celebrated on 14th November, 2022 with grand splendour and fiesta. As the school campus buzzed with excitement and joy. It was a day wherein fun and prolific dominated. Various activities were organized for the children of all classes such as Cooking without Fire, Wealth out of Waste, Jewellery Making, Paper Craft, Photo Framing and Painting. Winners of these competitions were awarded.
Diwali celebration was held in Zion Madambakkam. Our Principal Mr. R. Prakash lighted the lamp and inaugurated the celebration. Our Principal madam Mrs. Devi Mani has demonstrated how to celebrate safe and ecofriendly Diwali to the students. The program ended with Cultural events.
Teachers’ Day was celebrated on 5th September, 2022 in our school with pomp and grandeur. The program was held in Zion International Public School, Mappedu auditorium, which was beautifully decorated with flowers and festoons. The Chief Guest Ln. Aldous Huxley, the Vice Chairman, Mrs. Rachael Georgiana the Director, Zion and Alwin group of schools and other dignitaries presided over the program. Zion and Alwin group of schools’ teachers presented different programs to felicitate the function. Mrs. S. Jayalakshmi, PRT Maths, Mrs. P. Seethalakshmi, TGT II Biology, Mr. M.G. Neethialagan, PGT II Maths, received the Best Teacher Awards.
24th Annual Sports Meet was held on Saturday (20/8/2022) from 8 am Mrs. Prasanna Jayasankar - the Chief Welfare Inspector - Sports Southern Railway, Sports National Selector-Women's team – BFI, Female Head Coach – UBA professional Basket Ball league was the Chief Guest. Dr.N.Vijayan, the Chairman of Zion and Alwin Group of Schools, Mrs.Rachel Georgiana Huxley, the Director of Zion and Alwin Group of Schools and the Academic Coordinator, Mrs. S. Anitha Emel Elizabeth participated and felicitated the occasion.
India's Independence Day 2022 Celebrations . All citizens participated with FULL GUSTO in "Har Ghar Tiranga", a campaign to celebrate the Indian flag and patriotism.
As a part of the Central Government's initiative on the Platinum Jubilee Celebration of India's Independence, the students of Zion, Madambakkam whole heartedly involved in creating the formation of 75 as a human chain.
Mr.R.PRAKASH, the Principal and Mrs.K.DEVI MANI, the Principal of Middle School, meticulously planned for this formation of No. 75 on 15th August, 2022, Monday to instil the spirit of unity, solidarity, patriotic fervour and national integrity in the young minds.
The idea behind this initiative is to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the heart and soul of the younger generation. This also enables to promote an awareness about the struggles underwent by the great leaders and freedom fighters during this auspicious occasion - 75 years of independence.

This auspicious occasion started with Welcome Address by the School Principal, Mr.Prakash Sir, and consented to present the badges so as to instil a sense of duty and pride in the new elected prefects of
the school.
Students who completed 15years have received 1st dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in the school premises on the 1st day of the vaccination drive for children.COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and free.
More than 50 Stalwarts of Zion Madambakkam school actively took part in a rally to create awareness on the importance of rainwater harvesting on 10th October 2021.
The rally was flagged off from our school premises by our Principals Mr. R. Prakash and Mrs. Bhagathavathy Devi mani.
Students carried awareness placards and banners stressing the need for proper rainwater harvesting among the people. Students raised awareness slogans motivating people to harvest rainwater effectively.
Colours week was celebrated during the first week of November. The motivation behind celebrating this week was to make the children aware of the different colours and their significance. Early identification of colours helps in creating a cognitive link between colours, clues and words. Classes were decorated with balloons, ribbons, flowers and charts and children came to school dressed up in corresponding colours. An amazing learning experience was created through practical learning.
The 75th Independence Day was celebrated with great zeal and patriotic fervor at Zion Matriculation Higher School, Madambakkam. The programme started with a prayer and the welcome address was proposed by our Principal madam Mrs. Bhagavathy Devi Mani. The National flag was hoisted by our beloved Principal sir, Mr. Prakash and it was followed by Tamil thai vazthu. Our Principal addressed the gathering, appealing to their nationalistic spirit and urged them to take pride in being an Indian and fulfilling one’s duty with responsibility. He also motivated the students, emphasized the role of youth today who are the true wealth of our country and ignited the fire of patriotism in young minds. This was followed by a patriotic song that awakened everyone’s feelings towards our motherland. Several competitions were conducted among the students on a virtual platform to bring out their love and passion towards our nation. The event continued with a virtual display of cultural events which witnessed the unique culture and heritage of India. It was indeed a day of joy, a day to love, respect and experience the freedom of our country.
On the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Tamil Nadu's former Chief Minister, Late. Thiru. Kamarajar, students of ZION SCHOOL Madambakkam, exhibited the exemplary work of the great leader by involving in different types of competitions like Quiz, Elocution, Sketch Drawing, Rangoli, Glass & Water Painting and much more. Floral tribute was paid to the portrait of the former chief minister, with reverence.
Marksheets for outgoing students of Std XII 2020-21 were distributed by our Principals in batches adhering to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and the school toppers were felicitated.
20th Annual Day celebration (2019 – 20), at Zion Madambakkam was a grand celebration of the success achieved and records made in the previous academic year. This extravaganza showcased the most spectacular plays, skits and dance performances of students who captivated the audience into the world of ultimate entertainment. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Ismail, Director Eco Science Research Foundation, graced the occasion as Chief Guest with his august presence and felicitated the achievers and the best performers of the previous academic year. These awards and prizes encourage children to fly high and reach the pinnacle of success. Apart from the display of talents, the inclination of students towards creating a better society through the thoughtful stage shows was witnessed. Such initiatives by young Zionians made the whole event a cherished experience for students, parents, grandparents as well as the staff members.
Grandparents' play a very important role in the life of every child. This part of our school programme is intended mainly to convey the importance of joint family system in our society and say goodbye to old age homes.
Needless to say, Farmers are the lifeline of humanity. In order to remember them and uphold the tradition of the land Pongal was celebrated with festivity and grandeur. Students performed various folk dances of Tamil Nadu in the back drop of the natural settings of a village.

To boost the spirit of sportsmanship and healthy living in our young students, the much-awaited Annual
Sports Day was organized at Zion Madambakkam. Witnessing a fantastic turnout from the parents and a
pleasant weather, the day started by oath taking and an impressive March Past. Once the races began,
the air was filled with cheer and tons of encouragement for the young athletes. Students of classes KG to
XII competed class-wise and house-wise in events like Hurdles, Relay, Sprints, 200mts and 500mts
running races for boys and girls. The most-intriguing aspect, embellishing the event, was the splendid
field displays involving mass student participation in events like pyramid, karate, drill, butterfly dance
etc., which splattered on the field a riot of hues and vibrancy. Mr. Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Vice
President, Agni college of Technology, was our special guest. He is the first Youngest Indian
Swimmer to hold National records in 6 swimming events and the only swimmer from Tamil Nadu to ever win Gold medal (2007). He distributed prizes to all the winners and motivated children by his
speech to prove their mettle in this field.
Scholar Badge Ceremony is a moment to rejoice for the meritorious students who had worked diligently to achieve their goals. Students from classes I to IX are awarded scholar and topper Badges, Silver and Gold Stars are awarded for KG students as recognition for their outstanding academic merit and excellence.
The birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is celebrated on September 5th every year. This exciting day is celebrated with “The Best Teacher Award” being conferred on staff with remarkable performance and record breaking results.
Children’s Day 2019 at Zion Madambakkam was a memorable day as children enjoyed taking part in various co-scholastic competitions such as group activities, mimicry, talent show and Karate display. They enjoyed sharing home cooked food. On that day children were rightly educated about Child rights, POCSO Act, ill effects of Child labour and importance of equality among the children.
Auxesis 2019, Science Exhibition was held on 9th November, 2019.
Dr. M. Merlin, Associate Professor, Department of Science and Humanities, Jeppiar Engineering College, inaugurated the Science Exhibition. The students, parents and special invitees witnessed intelligence becoming contagious before their eyes. Science projects included Ground water Monitoring System, Smoke and Moisture level detector for paddy fields, Bio-plastic preparation, Smoke Absorption devices etc. The Economics department was the top performer projecting key areas like Evolution of money, Banking and Money, Consumer Exploitation, Effects on the Global system due to recent oil spill, Budget preparation, Future of commercial banking, etc. Eco-friendly seed balls [Seed packed with manure kept in coconut leaf basket] prepared by the students of the Economics Department were distributed to the visitors. Dr. N. Vijayan, Founder – Chairman and Senior Principal, Mrs. JayanthiSivakumar, the Dean and Dr.R.Sivasankari, the Principal appreciated that the Science Exhibition has been a platform for children to explore new things in every walk of life igniting their minds to emerge as scientists and explorers of Future India.
24th October is being observed as the UN Day every year during the morning assembly in which the students perform different programmes which carry a lot of information regarding the United Nations Organization and its functions. Later in the day, a quiz competition was conducted on the United Nations Organisation.
The modern-day lifestyle brings with itself tremendous pressure amongst students to outperform and stay ahead in the competition, which usually takes a toll on the students’ health. Therefore, Zion Madambakkam, in the endeavour to develop students holistically promotes the practice of Yoga amongst the students with the belief that Yoga has the power to boost learning, increase concentration and relieve stress. The school ensures students undertake Yoga sessions to make fitness a “way of life”.
The Investiture Ceremony was held on June 12th, 2019 in which the School Pupil Leader, Assistant School Pupil Leader, Sports secretary, House Captains and Vice Captains and Club leaders were bestowed with badges by our beloved Principal, Dr. R. Sivasankari and Vice Principal Mrs. S. Anitha Emel Elizabeth. The students donned the badges with a sense of responsibility and gratitude and thanked the school for recognising their leadership qualities and promised to be role models to their juniors.
